Remembers when he still lived in Mexico (as a child) and Poncho Villa and his band of bandits came to their farm (ranch); they stole some chickens (at least), and would have killed his father, if he hadn't been married to an American woman.

In the Navy (3-1944 to 11-1945), Served in WWII, South Pacific Theater; also had to go into Japan after their surrender and get American POWs out of the concentration camps. Rating at discharge was Motor Machinist Mate Third Class. Did boot training at Farragut, Idaho then amphibious training at Little Creek, Virginia.
