Richard Joe Hatley Sr., 68, of Hillsboro died Jan. 31, 2018, in Crystal City. Mr. Hatley worked most of his life as a custodian at various schools. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Born July 21, 1949, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Sebrean Rhea Hatley and Rita Mae (Abernathy) Brotherton.

He is survived by his wife: Sherry Ann (Fitzpatrick) Hatley of Hillsboro; a son: Ricky (Jennifer) Hatley of Imperial; two daughters: Nichole (Tim) Jett of Hillsboro and Shala (Ben) Proemsey of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren: Brianna, Baylei and Kane Sikes, Lila Proemsey, Elizabeth, Emily and Alicia Jett and Tori and Hanna Hatley; two sisters: Sondra Pobst of Cape Girardeau and Billie Jett-Davis of Ironton; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jade.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Ronald Mason, Larry Hatley and Thomas Mark Hatley.

A memorial gathering is at 11 a.m. until a memorial service scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
