Notes:

a) Spelled his last name "Reeves" instead of "Reaves" because "that's how everyone else does it." However, he had signed "Reaves" on his marriage certificate. His son kept Reeves, the girls maintained Reaves but, of course, changed names when marrying.

He said he was an orphan; he said that his father died before he was born, his mother died in childbirth, and he was raised by an Indian family.

There is a Luther Reeves listed in the Oklahoma, County Marriages Book, 1890-1995. No 2109.
"To any Person Authorized by Law to Solemnize Marriage -- GREETING:
You are hereby commanded to solemnize the Rite and publish the Bans of Matrimony between Mr. Luther Reeves of Oswalt, in the Indian Territory, aged 18 years and M. Johny M. Rambo of Pike, in the Indian Territory, aged 17 years, according to law, and do you officially sign and return this License to Witness my hand and official seal, this 8 day of Nov. A.D. 1907. By NH. Wekory (?), Deputy.
I, JM Hammons a Minister of the gospel as commanded in the foregoing License, solemnize the Rite and publish the Bans of Matrimony between the parties therein named.

NOTE: it is possible, then, if Luther was truly from the Oklahoma Indian Territory, that he could have married before moving East. This Luther is at the right age, as 18 in 1907, after his birthday in January 1890, would actually be right on the money age-wise.
